On February 3, 2020 an application for Special Exception to the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Rainsville was turned into the Office of the City Clerk. According to the Zoning Ordinance, in the Agriculture District, a lot must be at least three acres to build a home. The variance requested is for a home to be built on 1.85 acres in the Agriculture District. Currently, the land is pasture and woodland. The location of the proposed site is next door to 1366 Rainbow Ave South, Rainsville, AL 35986.

A part of the East half of the Southeast quarter of the Northeast quarter of Section 22, Township 6 South, Range 7 East of the Huntsville Meridian in Dekalb County Alabama and being more particular described as follows:
Commence at a railroad spike found at the Southeast corner of the Southeast quarter of the Northeast quarter of said Section 22 and run a tie line North 88 degrees 17 mins 40 secs West a distance of 260.8 ft to a ½”cap “Short-26019” set on the North R.O.W. of Rainbow Ave at the Southwest corner of the Janice Martin parcel (776/147) and being the Southeast corner of the tract hereby described and the true point of beginning thence leaving said Martin parcel and running along said North R.O.W. North 88 degs 34 mins 40 secs West a distance of 228.84 ft to a ½” steel rod found at the Southeast corner of the Matthew and Bethany Stephens parcel, thence leaving said North R.O.W. and running along the East boundary of said Stephens parcel and a projection thereof North 03 degs 41 mins 40 secs East, passing a ½” steel rod found at the Northeast corner of said Stephens parcel at a distance of 212.7 ft, a total distance of 371.02 ft to a 1/2“ cap “short-26019” set, thence South 88 degrees 21 mins East a distance of 206.06 ft to a ½” cap “Short-26019” set at the Northwest corner of the above Martin Parcel, thence along the West boundary of said Martin parcel South 00 degrees 10 mins 25 sec West a distance of 370.0 ft to the point of beginning and containing 1.85 acres +/-.
The Rainsville Zoning Board of Adjustments (Special Exception Committee) will hold a public hearing regarding this proposal on Tuesday March 3, 2020 at 5:30PM a the Joe Bowman room of the Tom Bevill Center. Anyone wishing to speak for or against this proposal needs to do so at this time.
