The Collinsville Panthers opened the 2018-19 basketball season last week with strong showings against the Ider Hornets and Dade County Wolverines. The Panthers defeated the Hornets in their season opener 67-27. Collinsville took control early behind the shooting of Isaac Jones who finished the night with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. The Panthers led 39-15 at halftime. However, both teams struggled shooting in the third before Collinsville caught fire again and scored 23 points in the final period to seal the win. Drew Bobo just missed a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Kaleb Jones accounted for 12 points and six rebounds. Cole Wooten led the Hornets with eight points, followed by Corey Brown with seven and Jeffrey Shirley with five.
It was much the same the next night against the Dade County Wolverines. The Panthers defense smothered the Wolverines, allowing just six points in the first period while netting 22 points themselves. The second period was the same story and the Panthers went to the half leading 48-19. Kaleb Jones scored 24 points, 15 of which came from beyond the 3-point line, to lead the Panthers to the 73-45 win. Isaac Jones recorded another double-double with 16 points and 19 rebounds. Caleb Pruitt netted 10 points.
