The Fort Payne Wildcats came out on top at Southside Thursday night even though the Southside Panthers refused to go away. After trading baskets early, Southside jumped out front 19-13 with just a minute to play in the opening period. The Wildcats scored six unanswered points in that final sixty seconds to tie the game at 19 all heading into the second. Fort Payne tried to pull away in the second period, but a last-second three by the Panthers cut the Wildcats’ lead to 41-36 at he half. Southside cut Fort Payne’s lead to just one early in the third period, but the Wildcats answered with a 7-1 run. The Panthers cut the lead back to two late in the third, and again, the Wildcats answered with a score from the paint. The fourth period saw the wildcats take control for good with a double-digit lead that Southside couldn’t cut to more than seven. Ty Brooks led the Wildcats with 27 points, followed by Jacob Hendricks and Kevin and Keyshawn Hightower with 12 points each. Zach Ridgeway netted six, Lane White contributed five, and Jordan Corbin had two.
