The Panthers from Collinsville opened century season last Friday night, August 23, at Plainview hanging half a century’s worth of points on the Bears to win 50-6. Plainview only turned the ball over once, but the Bears were hit with penalties all night long. Collinsville got on the board first, with a 4-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback, Kaleb Jones. Plainview’s only turnover of the night came on their next drive. A few plays later, Jones connected with senior receiver, Garrett Skelton, on a 12-yard touchdown pass. The first quarter ended with Collinsville up 17-0 after the Panthers forced a quick punt and senior kicker, Jason Perez, added a 35-yard field goal.
The Panthers added to their lead late in the second quarter when Jones hit Skelton again, this time in the endzone, from 32 yards out. The Panthers went into halftime with a 30-0 lead after senior Michael Tucker punched into the endzone from the 3-yard line with 26 seconds left in the second quarter and Perez added the PAT.
Collinsville continued to impose their will after the half. Just 1:30 into the third quarter, Jones hit Skelton for a third touchdown strike, this time from 36 yards. Junior tailback, Malachi Orr, increased the Panthers’ lead to 44-0 with a 32-yard touchdown run to end the quarter.
The Panthers ended their scoring run with a 22-yard touchdown strike from Keaton Deboard to Deon Winsley to increase their lead to 50-0.
The Bears’ young team did avoid the shutout when sophomore quarterback, Noah White, got Plainview on the board with a 4-yard touchdown run in the final period.
As Collinsville opened, they posted 329 yards of offense to Plainview’s 133. Jones went 6-of-12 passing for 129 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 44 yards. Orr led the Panther rushing attack with six carries for 64 yards. Dalton Hughes rushed for 47. Skelton led the receivers, grabbing three touchdown passes for a total of 80 yards. On defense, Bryan Lopez had two sacks on the night. Perez connected on five PAT’s and a 35-yard field goal for the Panthers. Bryan Patton recorded one while Tucker recovered the lone Plainview fumble.
White completed 8-of-15 passes for 68 yards for Plainview as well as running for the Bears only score. Junior running back, Brody McCurdy, led the Bears’ rushing with 43 yards on 12 carries.
Collinsville will play host to the Crossville Lions this week while Plainview will be at home again against the Class 4A North Jackson Chiefs.
