Rainsville could get an electric car charging station behind the Rainsville Police Department building. The Rainsville City Council empowered Mayor Lingerfelt to sign an application for a grant for the electric car charging station at the June 5, 2023, Rainsville City Council meeting. Now the City will wait to see if the grant is approved.
The Council approved several other items during the meeting, including the following:
• Purchase of four Fire King Filing Cabinets for the Court at the cost of $1,500
• Acceptance of Matthew Green’s resignation as the attorney for the Planning Commission
• Acceptance of Johnny Brown’s resignation from the Rainsville Police Department
• Hiring of Robert Rollins as a patrolman at the Rainsville Police Department at $17.05 per hour
• Travel and training expenses for Gerald Mount to attend an advanced interrogation and interview class
• $6,700 to purchase 100 garbage cans from Wastequip
• Amendment of the Unsafe Structure Ordinance
• $1,250 to Boozer & Son Construction for installation of the emergency beacon light at the Rainsville Fire Department
• $14,800 to purchase a 2008 Ford 350 service truck for the Public Works Department
• Empowering Mayor Lingerfelt to sign the Municipal Water Prevention Program Resolution
• Transfer $1,250 to the Rainsville Chamber of Commerce
• Hiring Johnny Clem to run a sewer line on Rainbow North
• Empowering Mayor Lingerfelt to sign an application for a Homeland Security Grant for the Rainsville Police and Fire Departments to purchase emergency equipment
• $500 donation to the Plainview Softball Team to purchase state championship rings
Rainsville Chamber of Commerce Director Sandy Goff announced that the Chamber of Commerce raised $15,000 for ten scholarships for Plainview and Cornerstone seniors. The next meeting of the Rainsville City Council will be on June 19, 2023.
