Delays Possible On AL Hwy 117
The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists to expect periodic delays on Alabama 117 as a contractor sets arches on the new bridge over the West Fork of Little River in Mentone. Intermittent lane closures will be possible from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm daily, Tuesday, January 7 through Tuesday, January 14.
Wright Brothers Construction Co. of Charleston, Tenn. is the contractor on the $5.7 million bridge project.
Ruhama Baptist Church
Ruhama Baptist Church welcomes a new Pastor. Mike Miller and his wife Sharon will join their church family in January 2020. Mike and Sharon are returning home after serving over 17 years in the mission field in South Korea. Please join us in January to welcome them. DeKalb Republican Breakfast Club
The Dekalb Republican Breakfast Club will meet on Saturday, January 11, at 7:30, am, at Western Sizzlin in Fort Payne. The speaker will be DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden. Sheriff Welden will update the group on the progress of his organization. The election for the 2020 Breakfast Club officers will be held by nomination.
Welcome Grove Church
Welcome Grove Church, in the Peak’s Corner community, will hold a singing on Sunday, January 12, at 5:00 pm. The special singers will be Chosen Generation from Geraldine.
Blood Drive
DeKalb Regional Medical Center is hosting a Blood Drive on Monday, January 13, 2020, from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Location – Bloodmobile. One donation can save three lives. Please give the gift of life for the New Year! Please eat a good meal, drink additional water, and avoid energy drinks! All donors will be given a special Blood Assurance blanket and all donors 18 years and older will be entered to win a $200 gift card to Pier 1. You can save time on your donation day by answering your health history questions before you arrive.
Rainsville City Hall
The Rainsville City Hall will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday.
Boy Scout Troop Benefit Singing
A benefit singing for the Tenbroeck boy Scout Troop #96 will be on Saturday, February 1, at 5:30 pm at Highway Church of God. The singers will be Mt. Moriah Singers from Fyffe and Cotton Pickin Kids from Hanceville. Make plans to help the youth of our community while enjoying good Bluegrass Gospel Music. Everyone is welcome.
Senior Expo
A Senior Expo will be held on Thursday, January 23, from 9:00, am to 2:00 pm at Goose Pond Civic Center in Scottsboro. There will be food, door prizes, entertainment, and various vendors. There will also be a document shredder for unwanted documents available until 1:00 pm. Please remove all staples, clips and other metals from documents to be shredded. Senior Citizen Tai Chi Class
The DeKalb County Council on Aging will be holding Tai Chi Classes on Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, from October 15 to February 11. Tai Chi can help improve your health, balance, assist in fall prevention, and possibly help with arthritis, depression, and neurologic conditions, like Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. This is a free 16-week session. Classes will be held at the Council on Aging in Fort Payne. Call 256-845-8590 for more information.
Senior Bingo
Wills Valley Rec Center will host Senior Bingo (ages 55 and up) on the third Wednesday of each month, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A meal will be served each week, with the Rec Center providing the main dish and everyone else bringing a covered dish. The center is located at 4220 Godfrey Ave NE in Fort Payne.
Section Church Of God
The Section Church of God, located on 84 Hodge Road, would like to invite all children ages 4 through 7 to Tiny Disciples Children’s Church each Sunday at 11:00 am. There will be a Bible storytime, crafts, and more led by Director Kelly James. Pastor Gary Nix and the church welcomes all.
N.E. Alabama Marine Corps League

Alzheimer’s Association Support Group

Scottsboro 1st Saturday Cruise-In
The Jackson County Cruisers will host the “Scottsboro 1st Saturday Cruise-In” on the first Saturday of each month, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, around the Courthouse Square. Anyone who registers a car, truck, or motorcycle will be entered in the cash give away drawings, and will also get one entry in the Grand Prize drawing, which will occur at the October Cruise-In, but you must be present to win. 50-50 tickets will be sold for a chance to win half the money; the other half goes to Back-Pack for Kids to help feed children on the weekends.
