Scott Timmons Named Principal
By Bonita Wilborn
FORT PAYNE – As of last week, Anthony Scott Timmons, former Principal at Henagar Junior High School, has been appointed Principal at Fort Payne High School.
According to Fort Payne City Schools Superintendent Brian Jett, the need for hiring a new Principal arose when former Principal Patrick Barnes retired about a month ago. Jett explained that of the 16 candidates who applied for the position, Timmons had everything the system was looking for in an administrator. Jett praised Timmons’ work ethic and said he is excited about bringing him to Fort Payne High School.
Timmons has held many positions in the DeKalb County School System as a teacher and an administrator.
Most recently, he had a 4 ½ -year stint as Principal at Henagar, and before that served as Principal at Ruhama Junior High School, but said at the Fort Payne City School’s Board meeting, “I’m humbled and honored to be your next principal.”
Timmons highlighted areas he hopes to make a priority.
- Academics – Our goal is to increase the rigor of instruction, ensuring that engaging lessons that include student-led discussions and purposeful questioning are implemented by all teachers. It allows students to develop critical thinking skills necessary for future success. Focusing on increasing ACT scores, high-quality instruction, ACT prep, advanced placement, and dual enrollment will ensure students gain ground.
- Continue strategizing Career Tech Education – This will allow students to learn and develop a trade that fits their interests. Producing productive graduates ensures that when they leave high school, they will be college or career ready.
Timmons thanked Jett and the board for entrusting him with the position of leading Fort Payne High School and added, “It’s not a job I’m going to take lightly. I’m going to work hard every day for you.”
