Congratulations to all the seniors in DeKalb County on completing twelve-plus years of education successfully, and best wishes on your next endeavor. Earning a high school diploma while participating in extracurricular activities is quite an accomplishment, and some students have been able to raise the bar even higher by winning awards in multiple sports and earning college degrees while still in high school. Levi Brown of Plainview is one of those students.
Levi is a three-sport athlete playing football, basketball, and baseball. During his senior year, he was named part of the All-County football team, played on the 3A State Championship basketball team, and played for the Bears baseball team. Levi was a busy athlete, while at the same time, he earned two degrees from Northeast Alabama Community College – an Associate in Science (Physical Education) and an Associate in Art.
Levi plans to transfer to Athens State University on a scholarship to complete his Health & Physical Education degree.
In a NACC Facebook post, Levi stated, “I liked being able to complete my high school credits at the same time as my college credits. I also like the flexibility of online classes.” He also said DE courses prepared him for tougher college classes in the future.
“Dr. Byrum stood out to me because he is a very good teacher that kept our attention, especially in the long classes.” Levi added, “Although it has taken a lot of hard work and many hours studying, it will all be worth it in the long run. It is not easy taking college classes and playing sports, but it can be done.”
