RAINSVILLE, AL – The DeKalb County Fine Arts Theatre opens its biggest musical yet – The Lion King Jr.– to the community this weekend. The cast and crew consist of over 30 students representing 12 different schools. Director Madison Hagler states, “The Lion King Jr. is an iconic show with music that is beloved by fans all over the world. It is a challenge to do such a well-known show because audiences come to the performance with certain expectations, but these students live up to those expectations and more. Being transported to the African Savannah and hearing classic songs like “Circle of Life,” “Hakuna Matata,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” sung live is an experience that will stick with you, and these students do a phenomenal job. You may even forget that you are watching a high school production.”
The students have put hours of rehearsal into this production to bring audiences not only an incredibly skilled performance but also the largest set and most intricate costumes yet. Students fill every position, from the cast on stage to running the lights and sound. Hagler states, “We have raised the bar in terms of our technical elements with this show. We have extravagant costumes that bring these characters to life, a beautiful large set that feels expansive like the Savannah, and lighting that transforms the space into a new world.”
Performances of The Lion King Jr. will be held at the Fort Payne City Auditorium. Friday performances on April 19 and 26 will be at 6 p.m., and Saturday performances on the 20th and 27th will be at 3 p.m. Tickets are selling fast—less than 35% remain! They can be purchased in advance at our show/dcfalionking or at the door. Seating is reserved and limited.
