Food City Groundbreaking
On July 25, 2023, Food City representatives, Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce members, Fort Payne Mayor and City Council, and other DeKalb County officials broke ground for the new Food City location at 1015 Gault Ave, South in Fort Payne. Food City President Steve Smith said the 54,000 sq. feet store would offer a full sit-down café serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a Starbucks complete with a fireplace, food prepared on a hickory wood smoker, brick oven pizza, fresh-rolled sushi, a food bar with soups and salads, Asian Wok, a full-service meat and seafood department, vegan and gourmet items, a full-service florist, a pharmacy, credit union, and both full-service and self-checkout. The store is expected to open in the fall of 2024.
