FORT PAYNE, ALA – On July 19, 2023, the Fort Payne Police Department received a call at approximately 2:46 pm about a possible shooting on 26th Street NW and Gault Ave. N. Reportedly, two vehicles were involved in the incident. Officers issued a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) call, and after searching the area, they located two suspicious vehicles believed to be involved in the crime. Authorities learned later that a 16-year-old female had been shot during the event and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries by family members. The juvenile was believed to be in the car when the shooting occurred.
Investigators at first made no arrests for the actual shooting, but during the investigation, they arrested and charged five individuals with various drug charges. Those charged were:
- Misaia Trion Moore, age 24 of Lithonia, GA, Possession of Marijuana Second Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
•Shyheim Hassan Moore, age 23 of Lithonia, GA, Possession of Marijuana Second Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Tierek Kenya Stanford Dennis, age 24 of Fort Payne, Possession of Marijuana Second Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Johneil Alonna Steadman, age 21 of Gadsden, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana First Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
•Zeke Nathaniel Dupree, age 18 of Fort Payne, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana First Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
On the same day, Shyheim Hassan Moore, listed above, appeared before the District Judge of DeKalb County on the charges. The judge added the charge of Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle and Assault 1st, stemming from the shooting incident on 16th Street. He was taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center, and his bond was set at $231,000.
Chief Davis reported that this is believed to be an isolated incident where the parties involved were familiar with each other. He asks anyone with information on this incident to contact the Fort Payne Police Investigation Department.
During this same time frame, the department received another call about a possible shooting at a residence. This call was unrelated to the above incident and is being investigated by the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Davis said he wished to thank all the responding officers and investigators for their hard work and tireless effort in resolving this swiftly.
