FORT PAYNE, ALA – On August 12, 2023, hundreds of visitors dressed as flappers, gambling tycoons, and party-goers experienced the glamour and glitz of America’s Roaring 20s as one of Fort Payne’s most historic homes came alive for the “Great Gatsby Night at the Leath House.”
Freedom Run representative and property developer Jerry Clifton welcomed everyone to tour the results of sixteen months of hard work restoring the over 100-year Leath House to its former glory. The ticket sales from the creative fundraiser support the Rainsville Freedom Run, which finished its fifteenth year this past June. So far, the Run has donated approximately $500,000 to local charities.
Gwen Hughes and The Retro Kats filled the air with Jazz sounds from the 20s as guests were invited to try their hand at the gaming tables presented by Good Fellows Gaming. Ticket holders were given $2,000.00 in play money to gamble the night away.
Clifton thanked many individuals and groups that made the restoration of the Leath House possible. He gave a special shoutout to Glen Horton and Southern Properties, G2 Products, Landmarks, the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce, the Rainsville Freedom Run Committee, and the City of Fort Payne for making the Great Gatsby Night possible.
