Children, young and old, who enjoy candy, mazes, or even something a little scary, can find many things to do in DeKalb and Jackson County during October.
One family-friendly attraction is Down on the Farm, located at 2257 Heaton Road in Rainsville. Families may spend a few hours outside enjoying pumpkin picking, hay rides, corn mazes, a corn pit, and many other kid-friendly activities. The Farm is open on Saturdays from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm and Sundays from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm through November 4. Visitors may pick a pumpkin from the patch and play on the playground for $10.00. Those wanting to skip the pumpkin picking may explore the corn maze and play on the playground for $10.00, and those wishing to do all three may, with a $17.00 ticket.
Teenagers and those looking for a fright might be interested in Nyctophobia Haunted Attraction, located at 500 County Road 188 in Fort Payne. It is open to those 12 and older on Saturdays in October starting at 7:00 pm. Nyctophobia is a fully interactive haunted attraction located on Lookout Mountain, eleven miles from Fort Payne. The cost is $15.00.
For a second fright night, head to Scottsboro, Alabama, and enter Bedlam, a new haunted house located at 302 West Willow Street. Bedlam is open every Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm until 12:00 am and on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Trick-or-treaters are invited to collect some spooky sweets on Halloween night from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Tickets may be purchased for $20.00, and you may upgrade for $25.00 to get a glow-in-the-dark necklace that signals it’s OK for the actors to touch you.
On Saturday, October 29, visit Rainsville to collect lots of candy and have a good time during Rainsville’s Spook-Tacular. Rainsville has already begun decorating, adding all kinds of strange visitors to downtown Rainsville. Be sure to check the Rainsville Police Station and Rainsville City Hall. On October 29, Rainsville City Park will be filled with candy booths set up by local businesses, churches, and other organizations. Trick-or-Treaters may collect their loot in the park between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. From 7:00 until 10:00 pm, the fun moves to the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center parking lot for a Spooky Bash Dance. Everyone is invited.
Hammondville Trunk-or-Treat will be on October 29 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Hammondville Town Hall Loop located at 37646 U.S. Highway 11 in Valley Head. Henagar is also hosting a Trunk-or-Treat event, Halloween in Henagar, on October 29 at the Henagar City Park and throughout the city.
Four trunk-or-treat events have been announced in the local area for Halloween night. Broadway Baptist Church, located at 99 McCurdy Ave. S (Close to Hardee’s) in Rainsville will welcome kiddos beginning at 5:00 pm and lasting until the candy runs out. The Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce and Bobby Ledbetter’s Twin City Used Cars will host a Halloween Block Party at the VFW Fair Grounds. Trick-or-treating begins at 5:00 and lasts until 7:00 pm. RTI’s annual Trunk-or-Treat is also on Halloween night and will run from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
Remember, whether you want to feed your sweet tooth or scare yourself senseless, the local area has you covered.
