Pays off for students

RAINSVILLE, ALA- During the Rainsville City Council meeting, Councilman Brandon Freeman announced that the Rainsville Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament successfully raised approximately
$15,000.00 in scholarship money for local high school seniors. He thanked the Chamber for their efforts in organizing and hosting the tournament. Chamber Director Sandy Goff said the actual amount was $14,733.00, and eighteen teams contributed to making it possible to sponsor nine scholarships for 2024. Seniors from Plainview and Cornerstone will reap the rewards of the tournament.
Director Goff expressed her appreciation to those involved. Goff said, “We greatly appreciate all of our apparel, corporate, and hole sponsors and all the teams that came to play and support our scholarship fund tournament.
The Council approved the following items during the meeting:
- Project No. CRP-ACRPW-2023-01 (Access road to proposed Public Works Facility site)
- Setting September 6 as the next date for the Rainsville City Council meeting
- $500.00 sponsorship for Leadership DeKalb
- Authorizing Mayor Lingerfelt to sign the ALDOT Maintenance Agreement for the TAP program (This agreement concerns future sidewalk construction.)
- Resolution 08-21-2023 authorizing the City to move forward with the ALDOT agreement
- Travel/training requests for Investigator Josh Wilson and Officer Noah Pope
- $2,500.00 to purchase fire prevention materials for area school children
During the meeting, Mayor Lingerfelt asked the Council to consider the addition of another maintenance worker for the Public Works Department. He said the City has a lot of repair work to complete to keep the City machines working. The Mayor said the addition would be added in the next budget if the Council chose to add a worker. Councilman Byrum said he would also like to see hiring a City ordinance manager.
The last item on the agenda was an executive session. The Council went into executive session for about thirty minutes and reconvened, taking no action on the matter discussed.
The next meeting will be on September 6, 2023.
