The Rainsivlle City Council chamber was unusually packed with people at Monday night’s City Council meeting, even though no controversial topic was on the agenda. Members of the Class 3A State Championship Volleyball Team, the Plainview Bears, attended the meeting at the invitation of the Council. The Mayor and Council congratulated the team on capturing the first volleyball state championship in Plainview’s history and presented them with a $500.00 sponsorship to purchase state championship rings.
Enhabit Home Health and Hospice representatives were also at the meeting. Mayor Lingerfelt presented the organization with a proclamation recognizing their work during Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Enhabit is located in Rainsville and serves patients requiring assistance to recuperate and for those who need end-of-life care.
The Council approved several items during the meeting, including :
• One-time pay raise for City employees
• Contract revision for the Agri-Business Center
• $900.00 to Chris Croft and $120.00 to Taylor Black to add a court session to the first Tuesday of the month pay review to ease the backlog of uncollected court cost
• Resolution 11-6-2023 approving $496,000.00 to purchase land adjacent to Plainview High School
• Posting the Parks and Recreation Director position (applications will be accepted until November 22, 2023)
• $1,133.91 to obtain a license for the live camera footage at Plainview School, Chavies Bridge, and the Rainsville Park
• Empowering the Mayor to sign grants for the police and fire departments
• $13,500.00 to George Harper Painting & Pressure Washing for painting the Rainsville Fire Department
• Bid out the construction of a pad at the new Public Works Facility (Bids to be opened on 12/23/23)
• $1,266.00 for additional cameras at the Veteran’s Memorial and bathroom areas in the park to deter vandalism
• $11,042.50 to Laney Electric to upgrade and repair back-ups and generator connections to the Annex, City Hall, and radio tower
• $500.00 sponsorship to Plainview’s Cross Country Team to pay for state competition costs
• $1,000.00 sponsorship to Stewart Mitchell for the Alabama Stock Dogs Competition at the Agri-Business Center
