RAINSVILLE – The Rainsville City Council met on December 18, 2023, for its last regular meeting of 2023. The year ended well for department heads, as the Council approved a $3,000.00 raise for all department heads except Parks and Recreation. Parks and Recreations Director Sammy Smith retired this month, and his replacement has not been named.
In other business, the Council approved the following items:
• Resolution 12-18-2023 accepting the low bid from Jimmy Traylor of $152,139.29 for the consturction of a building pad for the new Public Works Facility
• Changing the next meeting from January 1 to January 3, 2024, due to the New Year’s holiday
• Hiring Austin Widgeon as a fireman starting at $14.95 per hour
• $3,500.00 for headwalls on Georg Wallace to Boozer & Son Construction
• $6,696.00 to Wastequip for 100 garbage cans
• $500.00 sponsorship to Plainview Softball towards the purchase of new uniforms
• Addition of two street lights to Peaceful Drive and two street lights to Dogwood Lane
• $3,000.00 to Kevin Brown for the removal of a hedge row on Garrett St. close to Maple Street to correct a safety hazard
Councilman Blevins congratulated Rainsville Police Chief Michael Edmondson on being selected as Rainsville’s Employee of the Year. City employees vote for the winner of this award each year. Congratulations, Chief Edmondson!
