There’s no place like home

HAMMONDVILLE – For six seasons, the Valley Head Tigers have been homeless with no field to call their own. Thanks to the cooperation among various parties and a lot of determination from many Valley Head supporters, the Tigers now call the Town of Hammondville Park home.
For the past several years, Valley Head residents, the Valley Head Athletic Club, the Town of Hammondville, the DeKalb County Board of Education, Speaker Steve Livingston, and Majority Leader Nathaniel Ledbetter have worked together to see the dream become a reality. Each group played a vital role in upgrading Hammondville Park to meet the needs of the Valley Head Tigers.
The park has been completely updated with new grass, fencing, lights, and a refurbished concession stand.
Valley Head played its first home game of the season against Asbury at the field on Friday, February 16, 2024, securing a 12 to 6 victory. Majority Leader Ledbetter threw out the first pitch of the game to commemorate the event. Ledbetter stated, “It was a great honor to be asked to throw out the first pitch at Hammondville for the new Valley Head Baseball field. These kids have gone for years without a home field. It is great to see the two communities pull together and work unselfishly with their time and money to make it happen. It makes me so proud to represent District 24. Congratulations on a job well done !!!”
MVN spoke with Superintendent Wayne Lyles. He said, “We are just extremely happy that this project has come to an end, and Valley Head Baseball finally has a home field again. We appreciate all the community leaders and individuals that made this new facility possible.”
