From the Office of DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden:
FORT PAYNE, Ala. — On Sunday, January 7th, DeKalb County Deputies and Officers with the Rainsville Police Department responded to a residence on Dawson Ave in the Shiloh community in regards to an assault with a knife. As the initial deputy neared the residence, he encountered a male subject on foot fleeing from the location and found reason to detain him. The deputy and Rainsville Officers then proceeded to the residence and found two victims suffering from life-threatening injuries on the scene. The responding Deputies and Officers rendered immediate aid, and DeKalb Ambulance Service responded shortly after that. DeKalb County Investigators and Jacksonville State University’s Center for Applied Forensics Analysts were then notified and responded to the scene.
After an investigation by the DeKalb County Criminal Investigation Division, Ballard Eugene Pennington, Jr. (52 of Rainsville), aka “BB’ was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence 1st (x2), which is a Class A Felony. This is an ongoing investigation, and other changes may be forthcoming.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: “Thank you to all 1st Responders for your swift action in rendering aid to the victims and also in the arrest of the assailant. We are focused on protecting the citizens of this county, especially the ones who cannot protect themselves. Please pray for the victims as well as their families.”
