David, The Best King Of Israel Before Jesus (Part 7)
It may sometimes seem to men that God is being too harsh or restrictive concerning things that men do wrong, but we must realize that God is always right, moreover, He has given clear direction in His Word concerning how we should live. The problem is not with God, rather it is with man’s poor insight into the Word of God! II Samuel 6:11 shows that the ark of God remained in the house of Obededom, after David and his people failed to move it properly, bringing about the death of Uzzah for having touched the ark. II Samuel 6:12 shows that God blessed the house of Obededom, thus David determined to try a second time to bring the ark of God to Jerusalem. This time the ark was borne on the shoulders of the Levites by the staves (poles) that were inserted into the loops (rings) on the sides of the ark. II Samuel 6:13 shows that David sacrificed to the LORD when the Levites had borne the ark six paces. Then 6:14-15 shows that David danced before the LORD with all his might, and the people shouted and sounded trumpets. Why did David do it right this time? Evidently he had remembered the words of God concerning how the ark should be moved, or else he was so instructed by the priests and Levites.
II Samuel 6:16 says, “And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.” The ark was brought into the tabernacle that David had pitched for it, and David offered burnt offerings and sacrifices. II Samuel 6:22 says, “Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaidens of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself.” Michal was embarrassed, evidently, by the dancing of David before the LORD, but God was not displeased by it. It is a dangerous thing when people are displeased at those things that please God. Because of her action, Michal would never have children until the day of her death. It is dangerous to criticize the people who please God in their worship, so Michal would pay the rest of her life for her sin!
