DEKALB CO. – Dekalb County Homemakers and Community Leaders met on February 15 for their annual Awards Day. Each of the five clubs, Crossville, Geraldine, Ider, Lookout Mountain, and Tenbroeck were represented. Awards were given for club participation in our program of works, which included such interesting topics as Citizenship and Outreach, with clubs collecting and donating items to homeless shelters. Other topics and projects were: Family Life, Enviroment, and Marketing, Health, and Nutrition. These programs are designed to reach out, teach, and learn throughout the year.
Each club received awards based on their accomplishments during the year.
In addition to these awards, DeKalb HCL also selected the annual “Woman of the Year.” This honor is given to a club member nominated by their local club who is very involved in all club work.
Congratulations to Beth Martin, who joined the Ider Homemakers and Community Leaders in 2008 and currently serves as the club President. She has three children and many friends. Although she is now retired, she worked in the newspaper industry for many years and wrote a local news column a few years ago. She enjoys meeting new people and helping others and currently serves on the board of the Ider Public Library.
We are honored to name Beth as DeKalb County Woman of the Year.
