12 U Fort Payne All-star Girls Softball State Champs Visit Council

The 12 U Fort Payne Allstar Girls Softball Team was recognized at the August 2, 2022, Fort Payne City Council meeting. The team was recently crowned as 12 U State Softball Champions. The team consists of Madi Weldon, Ava McGinnis, Miley Cruz, Gracie Graben, Olivia Harrison, Gracelyn Gilstrap, Brylee Parks, Layla McBryar, Harleigh Morgan, Emma Argo, Trinity Hartline, Addi Burt, and Brilee Patterson. The Council congratulated the team on its accomplishment, finishing with a 16/1 record.
Mayor Baine updated the Council and those present on the City’s progress and needs. Baine said the Council had discussed raising the CDL drivers’ pay in the next budget and possibly increasing the pay for the rest of this year. Baine said the cost would be approximately $20,000.00; the Council supported this plan and approved this action.
Mayor Baine said the sewer project bid request had been sent out to the public, and those received would be opened on August 18.
Baine encouraged everyone to remember that school has started, and it is important to be aware of school zones, speed limits, and everything related to school traffic. He emphasized the need for patience during the first few days of school.
The Terrapin Hills sewer pump installation should be finished by August 9, with other work to follow. Baine added that the City had finished its paving list for the year, and it continues to work on completing the new basketball courts.
The Council approved a curbing request for Spencer Reed at 2310 Gault Ave. North, and it tabled an activity permit request for Narcotics Anonymous at Hawkins Spring. The Police Chief was out of town and wanted more information on the request before giving his recommendation.
The next meeting will be on August 16, 2022, at 12:30 pm.
