The Rainsville City Council voted to move forward with negotiations to purchase land adjacent to Plainview High School. If the purchase is finalized, the land will be used for the needs of the DeKalb County School System. The asking purchase price for the property is $286,000, and the Council authorized Mayor Lingerfelt to negotiate with the owners and obtain funding for the purchase if an agreement is reached.
The Council approved several other items during the July 17, 2023, Rainsville City Council meeting, including the following:
- $4,968 for Vehicle Maintenance Software for the City’s Fleet Program
- $1,899.97 to purchase a 30-gal 420 CC Turck Bed Air Compressor for the Public Works Department
- $8, 795.00 for a Diesel Diagnostic Scanner Tool and Laptop
- $300.00 to Michael’s Tree Service for removing a dangerous tree on Carlisle Rd.
- $2,000.00 to Lee Smith for engine diagnostic services on a City garbage truck
- Hiring Rylie Lassetter and Lucas Combs as Patrolmen at $16.05 per hour
- Sending Rylie Lassetter and Lucas Combs to the Police Academy for training
•Travel/Training request for Sandy Little
- $1,000.00 Sponsorship of the Rainsville Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament
- Authorizing Mayor Lingerfelt to negotiate the contract and obtain funding to purchase land adjacent to Plainview High School
- $11,500.00 to T & T Paving for work on North and South Rainbow Ave., Bailey Ave., and Shankles Road
- $1,500.00 to George Harper Painting & Pressure Washing for a pump at the Waste Water Treatment Plant
- $25,000.00 for an addition to the Veteran’s Memorial in the Rainsville City Park (This pentagon-shaped addition will provide space to honor more distinguished veterans)
A motion to approve immediate consideration of Ordinance 07-17-2023 accepting Peaceful Acres and Dogwood Lane into the City failed to pass. The Ordinance will be reviewed again at the next Rainsville City Council meeting on August 7, 2023.
