The Dekalb County Board of Education met on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 and was called to order. After striking item “E” from the proposed agenda, the board approved the agenda. They also agreed to approve minutes from the last two meetings. An agreement was made to accept the School Financial Statements, General Fund Bank Reconciliation, and the Bills and Accounts.
Mr. Brad Green from the Raymond James Company spoke to the board concerning the new Bond Agreement they are getting for the Snyder Project. He explained that process required a credit rating. Green reported the county had received an A+ Rating and commended them for this accomplishment.
Next, John Whitley from Sun Trust presented the board with a rebate check for the use of purchasing cards in the amount of $25,889.83. He reported that he felt next year’s rebate would be even greater.
The board then approved the following bids:
• CNP19-01- Double Stack Convention Oven – Sylvania High School – Hotel & Restaurant Supply – $11,846.82
• CNP19-02 – Convection Steamer – Plainview High School – Hotel & Restaurant Supply – $17,789.25
• Ruckus Access points – Howard Technology Solutions – $439.77 per device
The following retirements and resignations were approved:
• Diane Pointer – Secondary General Science Teacher – Crossville High School – Retirement – 6/1/19
• Ray Troxtel – Maintenance Worker – Facilities – Retirement -5/1/19
• Jeanie Croft – Elementary P.E. Teacher – Ider High School – Retirement – 6/1/19
The board agreed to the following Leaves of Absence:
• Lindsay Little – Elementary – Fyffe High School – 3/5/19 – 5/22/19
• Miranda Edwards – Elementary Teacher – Collinsville High School – 4/1/19 – 5/23/19
• Katie Willingham – Elementary Teacher – Ruhama Jr. High School – 2/8/19 -5/13/19 (Extended from 4/5/19)
• Mirian Moore – Elementary Teacher – Crossville Elementary School – 2/26/19 -4/30/19
The board made the following placements:
• Leah Faye Vaughn – Elementary Teacher (Leave from 4/1/19 – 5/23/19) – Fyffe High School
• Amelia Fugatt – English Language Arts Teacher ( Ending 5/23/19) – Crossville Middle School
• Brenda Trotman – Elementary Teacher ( Ending 5/23/19) – Collinsville High School
• Cynthia Wilt – Itinerant Special Education Paraprofessional – Crossville Middle School
Jeremy Henderson was approved as a volunteer softball coach at Valley Head High School.
The following principal contracts were approved:
• Jon Peppers – 12 Month Principal – Crossville High School – 7/1/19 – 6/30/22
• Wayne Lyles – 12 Month Principal – Ider High School – 7/1/19 – 6/30/22
• Westley King – 12 Month Principal Sylvania High School – 7/1/19 – 6/30/22
During the Superintendent’s Recommendations, Comments and Reports section of the meeting, the board agreed to the consideration of a resolution authorizing making sale and specifying the interest rates of special tax school warrants, series 2019. Barnett also informed the board that he wanted to postpone approving the Policy Committee Recommendations.
Before the meeting adjourned, Barnett congratulated both the Fyffe Lady Red Devils and the Plainview Boys Basketball team on their accomplishments at the Alabama High School State Basketball Tournament. The date of the next meeting will be April 18, 2019.
