FORT PAYNE, ALA-On July 11, 2023, County Commission Pro-tem Shane Wootten presided over the meeting in the absence of Commission President Rickey Harcrow, who was away on Commission business.
Road Superintendent Tom Broyles requested that four new employees be approved for his department, and the Commission granted his request. Ryan Barrontine was hired for District 1, Adam Price for District 3, and Sam Frasier and Michael Elliott for District 4. He said his department would not have any openings for the first time in a long time. He was pleased with this outcome. He also requested that Tim Young, one of the County’s crew leaders, be appointed Assistant Superintendent. The Commission approved the appointment.
Broyles requested that the Commission send out bids for one or more one-ton crew cab trucks and one or more flat beds for the trucks. He also asked the Commission to allocate approximately $155,000 for a mini excavator, $315,000 for a wheel excavator with a ditch bucket, and $150,000 to replace backhoes. The Commission granted these requests and said the department had the funds to pay for the items from the profits received in the vehicle buyback program.
