The Dekalb County Commission met Tuesday, September 25, 2018 for its by-monthly meeting. The meeting opened with prayer by President Harcrow followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The commission approved the minutes from the last meeting and proceeded with New Business.
President Harcrow recognize the DeKalb County Homemakers Organization with a Proclamation honoring their service. Joanne Strickland, DeKalb County Homemakers President, thanked him and the commission for the honor and explained the past year’s activities and areas of service.
Strickland commented, “We open our meetings with prayer and the pledge and we always will. We have started that way for the last one hundred years.” The club has the largest membership in the state raising over $15,000.00 for local charities and serving over 42,000 volunteer hours over the last year. There are seven county clubs making up the organization. In 2018, members have participated in judging county and regional 4-H Competitions, volunteering at the VFW Fair, Race to Embrace, Relay for Life, Children’s Advocacy Center Play and various other events. Members have also participated in library book sales, planting trees, and providing baby showers for Save-A-Life. In addition, the Homemakers provided educational programs on various topics that affect the community.
After the presentation, DeKalb County Revenue Commissioner, Tyler Wilks, explained a proposal to change the Tax Property Sale process to a Tax Lien Sale. He informed the commission that this process should prevent struggling home owners who are have difficulty paying their taxes from losing their homes.
Next, Broyles gave a report on the County Road Department stating that everything is going well. District 4 road work will hopefully be completed this week along with the grant project road work.

Approved the CR 681 Vacation Petition to vacate property owned by Rickey Etherton
Approved the request for Contract Labor
Approved the Alabama Department of Transportation Snow and Ice Removal Quote
Approved the Revenue Commission-Tax Lien Sale Policy Proposal
Approved the Boozer Bridge Project
Approved the 2018-19 Fiscal Year Budget
Set the date of the next meeting for October 9, 2018
The meeting was then adjourned.
