The Geraldine Town Council met Monday, May 8, 2023.
- Minutes were approved from the two previous meetings.
- The council heard from resident Josh Smith about some safety concerns in the park. Mayor Ables stated that efforts were underway to address the problems.
- Discussion was held about the Picnic in the Park on June 17, which includes a Car Show from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM and singing beginning at 3:00 PM with Wildwood and Average Joe. There will be food vendors and other vendors at the park. It will be free admission.
- Mayor Ables announced that a net had been received to be put up at the High School Baseball field to help prevent foul balls from damaging property adjacent to the field.
- The council voted to install gates at the two entrances to the park to close it to traffic between 11:00 PM and sunrise.
- Resolution 2023-05-08 was adopted regarding a Hazard Mitigation Plan.
- The council voted to donate $500 to the Geraldine Beta Club to assist with expenses to the National Convention this summer.
- It was agreed to provide breakfast and lunch for the graduating seniors at Geraldine on May 19.
- The council voted to repair the roof on the former Liberty Bank building that was donated to the town. The town is awaiting grant money from U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt’s office to make improvements to the building to house Geraldine Clinic, but the council deemed it prudent to go ahead and repair the roof to preserve the interior of the building.
- The council selected Kristina Moses to serve as director of the Farmer’s Market.
- The council accepted the bid from Robert White Contracting to do plumbing and electrical for the new restrooms being built at the park.
- Discussion was held about securing a Shred truck for a day to accommodate anyone with documents to be shredded.
- Discussion was held about continued improvements to the park with specifics to be discussed soon.
