The DeKalb County Commission met on June 25, 2019, where President Harcrow was in Montgomery on County business, so President Pro-Tem Chris Kuykendall presided over Commission meeting.
Road Superintendent Broyles updated the commissioners on the activities of the road department. The department completed the first round of herbicide spraying and is working on the second round. He also stated the work on the slide areas on Wade Gap are 95% complete. Preliminary work on County Road 835 has begun. Excavating should begin in mid-July.
Administrator Sharp explained the proposed ALDOT Funding agreement which Representative Ledbetter help to secure that brings $550,000.00 in state money to the county for improvements. The Commission voted to approve the agreement. Several commissioners thanked Representative Ledbetter for his efforts in obtaining the funding.
Council on Aging Director, Erin McCamy requested permission to take residents out of the county to compete in the State Masters Games. The Commission agreed. McCamy also requested permission to move Donna Fricks from part-time employee to full-time employee and Bobby Hullat as a part-time driver. The Commission also agreed to these requests.
In other business, the Commission approved the following items:
- Approved hiring Josh Hairston at the Sheriff’s Department on a Grade 8 Scale
- Approved purchasing a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe from the Geraldine Police Department
- Approved purchasing a Transport Vehicle from the State Bid List
- Approved repairing or replacing the Controller System which controls fire suppression and climate at the Sheriff’s Department
- Approved hiring Amelia Barker at the Revenue Department
- Approved the Census Resolution Agreement to form a Complete Count Committee
- Approved a Sealed Bid from Twin City to purchase a 2019 Tahoe for $33,000.00
During the meeting, Kuykendall commented on the recent agreement with Arrow Disposal for the county garbage program. He stated that this company was chosen because they presented the best value for the county and the consumer providing new garbage cans for each participant, as well as, new garbage trucks and two men to man each truck cutting down on downtime for the service. Those individuals wanting county garbage service who have not already requested it may attend a sign-up meeting at the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum on Saturday, June 29, 2019, between the hours of 8:00 and 11:00 am.
The next meeting date is July 9, 2019, at 10:00 am. Although Kuykendall presided over commission meeting this month, President Harcrow should be back next month.
