Michael Shan Bruce, a Fort Payne businessman, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 51. His lifetime of commitment to family and community will be long remembered. A graveside service was held on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 3:30 PM from Glenwood Cemetery, with Brother Ron Johnson officiating.
Mr. Bruce is survived by: Wife – Angela. Daughter – Ali Bruce (Elijah Drew). Son – Tyler (Mindy) Bruce. Granddaughter – Sullivyn Bruce. Parents – Shan and Connie Bruce. Brother – Eric (Misty) Bruce. Niece – Bailee Bruce. Nephew – Brody Bruce. Uncle – Jeff Bruce.
Michael was born and raised in Fort Payne. He was a Fort Payne High School graduate and continued his education at Jacksonville State University, where he met Angela, the love of his life. At his death, Michael and Angela had been married for 29 years. Together they raised two children, Ali and Tyler. One of which recently gave them their first grandchild, a granddaughter named Sullivyn Bruce, no doubt Michael’s pride and joy.
Michael has been described as the kind of person you could always count on. He would always listen and always had friendly advice to give. A person would help our city whenever he could and never said no when community members asked for help.
Michael’s friends knew him as “the life of the party” and said his smile could “light up any room.” He was a big fan of Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He enjoyed competing in BBQ cooking competitions with his friends known as the “Hammondville Hawg Mafia.”
Michael Bruce committed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital about 20 years ago and raised thousands and thousands of dollars for St. Jude through fundraisers at Foodland Grocery Store. For that reason, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis instead of flowers.
