The Northeast Alabama Community College Theatre is proud to present for the first time in over two years this year’s annual Summer Youth Theatre Workshop featuring The Little Mermaid Jr. Summer Youth Theatre Workshop 2022 will be held during the weeks of May 30th through June 3rd and June 6th through 11th, 2022. Summer Youth Workshop 2022 will be open to all students ages 18 and younger.
This year’s workshop will be held over the course of the two weeks culminating into two full performances of The Little Mermaid Jr. We are so excited to offer this incredible experience to the children and young adults in our area. The fee for the camp is $75, which you will pay after the show has been cast to secure your child’s spot. This covers the cost of the show and a t-shirt for each cast member. Unfortunately, we may not be able to cast every single child, but we do plan to accept as many as we can!
“I am very excited to direct this year’s Summer Youth Workshop and very excited to be producing The Little Mermaid Jr.,” said NACC’s Trey Gilliland. “Having the opportunity to work with some of the amazing local student talent in our area is very motivating both for myself and for our current students here at the college. I along with several of our current, future, and former theatre students will be working to make this year’s camp both memorable and valuable. The purpose of summer youth has always been to provide students in our area with the skills and experience in theatre that will stick with them for a lifetime.”
Summer Youth Theatre Workshop is an amazing opportunity for us as members of the Northeast Alabama community to bring art students together to learn, create, and explore art within themselves. The students will be cast into their roles prior to the start of camp, so that they can begin to learn their lines and the music. Once camp starts, they will be trust into vocal, choreography, blocking, and acting rehearsals working toward producing this amazing one act version of a classic Disney tale.
Students who would like to participate can sign up through an online google form, which can be found on all the NACC Theatre social media pages. Facebook and Instagram pages for the NACC Theatre can be found under the title of @nacctheatre. The google sign up form will act as both the students audition and registration sign up for Summer Youth Workshop 2022. The audition process will be held entirely online. Students will submit a short video audition along with the google form. This audition should include a quick introduction and 30-60 seconds or 16 bars of a musical theatre or Disney song. No monologue is required for the audition, but don’t forget to act the song! Students should feel free to use an accompanist or backing track in the audition.
The deadline to submit applications and auditions for the summer youth workshop is May 8, 2022. The two-week camp is May 30th through June 3rd, and June 6th through 11th, 12:00-4:00pm each day. The performances will be June 10 and 11 at 7:00pm.
