Rainsville City Council 10-7-19

The Rainsville City Council meeting occurred on October 7, 2019. All members of the council and the mayor were present. During the work session, department heads made several announcements of interest to the public. First, Plainview’s Homecoming Parade is Thursday, October 17 at 4:00 pm. Line-up starts at 3:00 PM at the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center. October is Fire Prevention Month, and representatives from the Rainsville Fire Department will visit area schools teaching about fire safety. The City of Rainsville will host Trunk or Treat at the Farmers’ Market on October 31st from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The Rainsville Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Holiday Open House for area businesses on November 8 and 9. The Veterans Day Ceremony is November 11, at 10:00 AM at the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center. Finally, the 60th Rainsville Christmas Parade is December 7 at 11:00 AM.
During the business portion of the meeting, the council took the following actions:
- Hired Scott Baswell as a full-time employee at the Rainsville Fire Department for $12.19 per hour
- Hired Alex Josea as a full-time employee at the Rainsville Police Department for $14.06
- Accepted the Street Paving Project CR-RES-19-01 as closed and agreed to pay Wiregrass $293,780.00 for completion (5% of the payment will be withheld until an announcement of completion is published in a newspaper for four weeks)
- Approved the purchase of a sanitation truck for $279,461.98
- Approved sending Tara Wilkerson to the Human Resource Conference on October 10-11
- Approved a Veterans’ Day Ceremony at the Bevill Center on November 11, at 10:00 AM to honor all living DeKalb County World War II veterans and agreed to purchase Keys to the City for $1,450.00
- Approved installing a fire hydrant between Cornerstone and the Agri-Business Center for $2,500
- Approved $1,830.00 for Air-Pack Testing
- Authorized the mayor to find financing for the purchase of two Police Tahoes for $80,290.26 at the lowest rate possible
- Approved a Public Hearing on October 17, at 6:00 in the Rainsville Council Chambers to discuss whether or not to contract with a city building inspector
The next Rainsville City Council meeting is October 21, 2019.
