On Monday, June 6, 2022, the Rainsville City Council met. During the work session, Freedom Run Race Organizer Jerry Clifton reminded everyone of the upcoming 10K 5K Rainsville Freedom Run on June 18. He also thanked the City for all its support of the race since its beginning. Rainsville Chamber of Commerce Director Sandy Goff announced that plans for the Rainsville Freedom Fest on June 25 are right on schedule, with the fun beginning at 1:00 pm and ending with fireworks at 9:00 pm. Councilman Freeman announced that the Rainsville Farmer’s Market is now open. Vendors may set up at 3:00 pm and begin selling at 4:00 pm each Thursday until further notice.
During the official meeting, the Council approved the following items:
• Resolution 06-06-2022 (A) declaring various unused/non-working office equipment/chairs in City Hall and Council Chamber as surplus
• Resolution 06-06-2022 (B) updating the rates at the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center
• Hire Caitlin Hilley at the library at a rate of $7.25 per hour
• Hire Cameron Gas as a part-time CDL Driver at the Public Works Dept. at $14.71 per hour
• Hire Sean Fowler as a part-time officer at the police department at $16.45 per hour
• Travel/Training Request from Sandy Little
• $5,000.00 to Affordable Towing to transport the new fire truck from New York
• $2,775.00 to DeKalb Refrigeration to purchase an air conditioner compressor
• Ordinance 06-06-2022 for an Easement on Rosewood Lane
• Empower Mayor Lingerfelt to sign the new sanitation contract with the town of Ider
• $1,000.00 Sponsorship to Plainview High School for new band uniforms
• MWPP Resolution 06-06-2022 (C)
• $1,000.00 to Rainsville Chamber of Commerce for advertising Freedom Fest
• Empower Mayor Lingerfelt to sign the agreement for an Easement on Rosewood Lane
The Council voted to enter into an executive session to discuss two legal matters. After reconvening, the Council voted to empower the Mayor to sign a letter of intent for the possible buying or selling of land owned by the City.
The next meeting will be on June 20, 2022.
