On January 3rd, John Casey Jones was arrested by State Bureau Agents and charged with theft of property second degree. Jones was transported and booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center at 6:12 pm Thursday night. The Rainsville police department released this information following the arrest.
A formal complaint against Officer Jones had been filed on October 28, 2018 leading to the investigation. Rainsville Police Chief, Kevin Smith, immediately contacted the State Bureau of Investigation. The Rainsville Police Department thanked the State Bureau of Investigation for their prompt investigation and time and attention devoted to the case.
Earlier in the evening, the Rainsville City Council held a special called meeting to discuss the “good name and character of a city employee”. Following the special called meeting, Jones was terminated from the police department. The arrest then took place.
