The City of Rainsville approved installing four new video cameras in strategic areas during its December 19, 2022, Rainsville City Council Meeting. This move was approved, among other things, to assist police in monitoring traffic accidents and tracking suspects on the run passing through the City. The cameras will be located inside and outside the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center, at the red light near Plainview School, and at the Chavies Bridge. The cost of the cameras is $11,461.00. The Council agreed to add a power pole at the Chavies Bridge to make the camera installation possible.
The City also approved accepting credit card payments to the Rainsville Sanitation Department and the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center through Bank Card of America. A card portal for the transactions will be added. Councilman Freeman also wanted the Council to consider making the service available for payment to the Parks and Recreation Department.
The City hired Matthew Green as the attorney for the Zoning Board of Adjustments and the Planning Commission. It also hired Cody Green as a part-time firefighter. The City accepted two resignations. Kennedi Traylor resigned as a Code and Revenue Enforcement Officer to take a position as a special education teacher at Ruhama Junior High School. The Council commended Traylor on her work and wished her the best for her future. Rainsville Police Officer Mercedes Rugart also resigned.
The Council approved several other items:
• Setting the date of the next meeting for January 4, 2023, at 4:00 pm
• Resolution 12-19-2022 (A) for the Tom Bevill Center Rental Agreement
• $760.00 for Smart Phone Body Cam for Code Enforcement Virtual Labs
• $1,100.00 to Rainsville Glass to replace Chief Edmondson’s door at the Rainsville Police Department

• Resolution 12-19-2022 (C) allocating $7,600.00 to Wilson & Son Trench & Plumbing for the sewer extension along the easement from Church Ave. to Richards St.
