Rainsville’s Dove Family Health
Chamber Chat television hosts, David Holt, and Sandy Goff, recently interviewed Dr. Morgan Goss, owner of Dove Family Health located in Rainsville, about her Direct Primary Care business. They also discussed the upcoming June 29th Rainsville Freedom Fest and the Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Golf Tournament both happening this summer.
Dr. Goss grew up in Fort Payne, and graduated from Sylvania High School. Her husband is a Henagar native, and they have a four-year-old daughter. After graduating Suma Cum Lada from the University of Alabama, Goss spent four years in Sarasota, Florida training in the medical field and a three-year residency in South Carolina. She then returned to Florida and practiced medicine for an urgent care medical clinic. Holt questioned Goss about why she became a physician, and how she landed in Rainsville, to open her first Direct Primary Care office.
It was her passion for faith and family that brought her to her career choice and eventually back to Sand Mountain. Goss stated, “I was fifteen and attending a church camp. While there, I felt a call to be a missionary. I thought I might go to Africa or China or someplace like that. In my heart, I asked the Lord, ‘Where do you want me to go? What do you want me to do?’ I felt in my heart the answer, ‘Go to medical school.’ I thought, well that is not Africa. During my journey through medical school and becoming a doctor, I continued to question my calling thinking that God wanted me to be a missionary. I finally realized that I had been one during the entire process. That thought changed my perspective in realizing you don’t have to go to a foreign country to be a missionary. I feel now that I am a medical missionary.”
That thought was one of many that led her back to this area. Goss explained that her husband had been a pastor for the last ten years. In 2017, after a visit home to celebrate their daughter’s second birthday, the couple felt a strong pull to settle in Rainsville and accept the calling from Destiny Church International now called Life Chapel, to pastor the local church. Goss stated that the motto of the church is “Where we bring love to life.”
While completing her residency in South Carolina, Goss learned of a new type of medical practice that provided affordable health care to all. She kept this information in the back of her mind until she realized her mission was to make health care affordable and obtainable offering compassion to those who need it. With the opportunity to pastor a church in Rainsville and the goal of opening her practice to fulfill her mission, the couple returned to Florida and turned in their ninety-day notices from their respective jobs.
In 2017, Dove Family Health Practice opened in the Body Vision Office Complex. Dove Family Health is a Direct Primary Care facility meaning that for a low monthly fee, patients can receive access to their local health provider 24/7 by calls, texts, and emails. They also get discounts on medicine and lab work. This situation brings the doctor/patient relationship back to the table avoiding the rush-rush atmosphere of many urgent care facilities.
The practice has been so successful that Dr. Goss has two other branch offices located in Huntsville and Albertville. To enroll for care in the Rainsville area, call 256-638-3766 (Dr Mo) or go to her website for online registration. The cost per month is $50.00 for those twenty-one years, and older and children can be added to an adult enrollment for $10.00 per month. Contact the office for more information.
Dr. Goss ended her thoughts with these words, “When you are called to something and are passionate about it, good things happen.”
