The following statement was on the Plainview School Facebook page: “The Plainview High School family mourns the loss of Mr. Don Fobbus. He loved this community and this school so much. He will be truly missed and probably never realized that he was the true “HERO.” He supported Plainview in every way imaginable. We will be forever thankful for the generosity, support, and love that he has shown to us all. Please join us in remembering this great man and lifting his family up in prayer during this difficult time.”
Mr. Don Fobbus, age 84, of Rainsville, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023, at his residence.
The following comments were taken from the Facebook posts of Plainview School and Plainview Softball.
Plainview Softball – “Mr. Fobbus was one of our greatest supporters that encouraged us on and off the field every single day. He never failed to talk to every single player each day and tended to call all of us his “heroes”. What Mr. Fobbus didn’t know, was that he was the greatest of all heroes to us. From all the past and current players, we all loved him dearly! Please pray for his family during this time! We are so grateful for everything that they have done for us!”
Dana Brown – “My mom called me this morning and told me about Don Fobbus passing away and this broke my heart for Tim and Amanda Hughes, Jadie Chester, Alana, and Luke. A few weeks ago I had an appointment in Huntsville and after the appointment I went to see Don in the hospital, and I am so glad I did. Tim and Amanda went down stairs, and me and Don just talked about him growing up, his mom and dad, and his wife. He talked about Amanda, Alana, and Jadie, and how he loved watching them play ball, and how good they were. That is one thing I always knew about Don, was how much he loved his family and how he loved watching football, basketball, baseball, and Plainview Softball! I remember when Halle came to Plainview and Don was so happy that she was going to Plainview! There is not a girl on that team that he didn’t call his hero! What he didn’t know is that he was really their hero! Don Fobbus, I know your in heaven and not in any more pain, and smiling that big smile of yours! My comfort is knowing one day I will see you and hear you say, Well, Cuz, it’s good to see you!”
