The number 1 ranked Fyffe Red Devils scorched the North Sand Mountain Bison as senior, Payton Anderson, ran wild over the Thundering Herd on Friday night.
The Bison took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards in nine plays. Quarterback, Landon Green completed a 40 yard pass to Zac Boston. From there, Boston carried the ball 20-yards for the touchdown to give NSM a 6-0 lead with the missed PAT. Fyffe answered on a 16-yard pass from Quarterback, Zach Pyron to Brody Dalton to take a 7-6 lead with just under 7 minutes to play in the first quarter. Fyffe’s Payton Anderson scored on a 7-yard run to extend the Red Devil lead to 14-6 with just under 2 minutes to play in the first quarter. On the next series, NSM launched their air attack as Green completed 5 of 6 passes the last which resulted in a 5-yard touchdown to Austin Hill to cut the lead to 14-12. The Red Devils drove 53-yards and scored on a 2-yard run to jump out to a 21-12 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Fyffe’s Anderson took over the game as he scored on a 15-yard run and a 19-yard run to give Fyffe a commanding lead 35-12. NSM did not give up as Green connected with Hill for a 39-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 35-18. Fyffe answered after recovering an onside kick. Anderson rambled for 45-yards, then two plays later, he scored on a 2-yard run to give Fyffe a 42-18 lead. The Thundering Herd rallied for one more score as they drove 76-yards which was capped off with a 13-yard pass from Green to Hill for the score to give Fyffe the win 42-26.
Fyffe’s Payton Anderson led the way with 363 yards rushing on 30 carries and 4 touchdowns on the night. Landon Green was 26 of 42 for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Fyffe will host Ider to close out region play on Friday night at 7pm. NSM will travel to Section for a region match-up Friday at 7pm.
