Howdy folks, it’s getting a little cool outside! That can only mean one thing: we are getting close to the end of the regular season. That may be true, but we still have some great football to play! Well, Ole Jordan wanted to see if he could beat the Ole Guru twice in a season. You may beat me once, but it won’t happen twice. The Ole Guru went 10-1, while poor ole Jordan was 8-3. That kind of record just doesn’t get it this time of the year! David Marks decided to try his luck against the ole Guru! You know what they say: “To be the best, you must beat the best.” Well, we will see how David does against me this week. He may be a “Tech Guru,” but he ain’t no “Picken Guru”. Now, on to last week’s games!
Those Collinsville Panthers carried a can of Raid up to Ider as they beat the Hornets 54-0. The Rams of Sylvania had a Bear Trap set at Ram stadium as they beat the Bears of Plainview 42-8. The Eagles of Pisgah took down a Herd of Bison from NSM 54-13. The Bulldogs of Geraldine mauled the Warriors of Westbrook Christian 30-7. The Tigers of Valley Head plucked the Eagles of Appalachian 37-8. The Wildcats of Fort Payne captured the Trojans of Hazel Green 35-14. Decatur Heritage beat the Panthers of Woodville 21-6. The Chiefs of North Jackson scalped the Bulldogs of Priceville 40-8. The Wildcats of Scottsboro took down the Lions of Sardis 41-21. The Lions of Section hung on as they defeated the Warriors of Whitesburg Christian 21-20. The Big Red Machine of Fyffe crushed the Wildcats of Sand Rock 47-0. What a Week! I think it will even get better this week as the playoff teams start to come to the top!
Whitesburg Christian travels down to Collinsville for a region match-up. Look for the Panthers of Collinsville to have their way with the Warriors of Whitesburg Christian 48-7. Ider travels to Sand Rock. Both teams are struggling and need a win. I think the Rock gets it done as they defeat Ider 28-21. Sylvania travels to Hokes Bluff for regional play. The Rams can clinch a Region Championship with the win over the Eagles of Hokes Bluff! The Rams lock up the Region with a 45-18 win!
The Lions of Section travel to NSM with a 2-game winning streak. Can they make it 3? I am afraid not; NSM wins 31-24. Piedmont travels to Geraldine to try to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Look for the Bulldogs to take down Piedmont 31-17. Valley Head travels to Woodville for regional play. Both teams are setting a 2-1 in the Region. A win for either team would be big. Who have you got? I am going with the Tigers of Valley Head to take a close win over Woodville 28-24.
Well, this next game is going to be a triple Slobber Knocker. Pisgah’s 6-0 Eagles make a trip to Fyffe, Alabama, to face off with the 5-1, defending State Champs in Class 2A. This game reminds me of the good old days of Danny Ridgeway, Tommy Mays, and Wayne Poole for Fyffe. Pisgah countered with Ray Maxwell and Roger Pruett. In 1969, the Pisgah Eagles went undefeated and beat the Red Devils 26-13. In 1970, Fyffe defeated the Eagles 21-8. The winner can clinch the Region Championship! Man, what a game. I have been studying up on this one for a few weeks! I still don’t know who to pick. Well, I have to make a decision! In a close one, Fyffe wins 35-34.
Westbrook Christian heads to Plainview. Both teams need a win. Plainview takes care of business with a 24-21 win! Buckhorn comes to Fort Payne! I think the Wildcats of Fort Payne get the win 47-28. Madison County rides up to Stevenson to face the Chiefs of North Jackson. The Chiefs have a 2-game winning streak going. I think they make it 3 with a 38-24 win! Douglas travels to Scottsboro to face the triple option! Can they slow it down? No, Scottsboro wins 38-28.
Well, week 8 is in the books! Let the Playoff fun begin. Save me a spot by the fence! See you next week for week 9!
