Class 2A No. 1-ranked Fyffe remains undefeated, picking up its fifth season win, defeating Plainview 56-13 last Friday night.
Logan Anderson scored the Red Devils’ first touchdown returning the opening kickoff 73 yards. Yahir Balcazar added a PAT.
At the 9:33 mark, Brodie Hicks rushed for a 3-yard touchdown run, and a Balcazar good kick made it 14-0.
Fyffe’s offense continued pushing, as Anderson added his second score of the night on a 4-yard run with 2:18 left in the first quarter. Balcazar’s successful PAT extended their lead to 21-0.
Simon Hicks picked off a Plainview quarterback Trey Rutledge pass as the Red Devils regained control of the ball at the Bears’ 33.
Fyffe capitalized on the play with Blake Dobbins finding Will Arnold on a 16-yard pass. A few plays later, Dobbins connected with Evan Chandler on a 25-yard touchdown pass. Balcazars’ extra point made it 35-0.
In the third, the Red Devils added two more scores with Hicks on a 58-yard run, Hunter Machen on a 55-yard run, and Balcazar two successful PATs.
Plainview caught a break in the final frame when Rutledge connected with Owen Hope on a 50-yard touchdown pass.
Fyffe answered with Kaden Sharps’ 32-yard run and a Jess Martin PAT.
The Bears added their final score with Brody Hodges’ 64-yard run and Brayden Lingerfelts’ successful point after, cutting the score 56-13.
Fyffe finished the game with 423 yards of total offense. Hicks had 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and Dobbins went 3-for-3 passing for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
Andrew Hall had 51 yards on 13 carries for Plainview. Hodges had 70 rushing yards, and Rutledge finished with 74 passing yards.
With the loss, the Bears fell to 1-4.
Plainview looks to bounce back as they travel to Hokes Bluff on Friday for a Class 2A, Region 6 matchup. According to AHSFHS.org, the two last met in 2001 when Plainview won 15-13.
Fyffe hosts Collinsville (4-1) for a Class 2A, Region 7 matchup on Friday at Paul Benefield Stadium.
