Collinsville delivered a dominating victory over Gaston with Mason McAteer and Keaton DeBoard connecting for three touchdowns for a 48-12 victory last Friday.
McAteer connected with DeBoard on a 65-yard touchdown pass at the 10:32 mark of the first quarter. A few plays later, McAteer rushed for a 4-yard scoring run extending the Panthers’ lead 13-0.
Gaston’s Keller Skaggs caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Hester early in the second frame, making it 13-6.
Collinsville answered when McAteer found DeBoard for a 23-yards touchdown pass, extending the Panthers’ lead to 20-6 at intermission.
In the third, DeBoard scored on a 51-yard run, and Luis Ailon added a good point after. Later in the frame, McAteer found DeBoard for a 38-yard touchdown pass, an Ailon kick increased Collinsville’s lead 34-6.
The Panthers continued their offensive efforts into the fourth quarter as James broke free for a 54-yard scoring run.
Gaston answered with its final score of the evening, as Harris rushed for a 13-yard touchdown run, cutting the score 41-12. However, Collinsville was not done. James added his second score of the night with a 10-yard run. Ailon’s PAT lifted the Panthers to 48-12.
With the win, Collinsville improved to 4-1, while Gaston dropped to 1-4.
Collinsville’s gritty defense and offense were led by DeBoard and McAteer. McAteer was 8 of 17 for 203 yards and passed for more than 200 yards for three touchdowns as the Panthers scored on seven of their nine offensive possessions. He also rushed for a 4-yard touchdown. DeBoard had five receptions for 181 yards, rushed seven times for 90 yards, and caught three touchdown passes.
Collinsville travels to Fyffe for a Class 2A, Region 7 matchup against county rival Fyffe (5-0) at Paul Benefield Stadium on Friday night.
