Collinsville Dominates Valley Head
By Nick Hall
Collinsville dominated Valley Head Friday night in the final regular-season matchup of the Panther’s 100th football season. It was all Collinsville all the time as the Panthers took the runaway win. Jacob Jones ended the Panther’s first drive with a 9-yard run and dive into the endzone. Jason Perez nailed his first of six PATs on the night to give Collinsville a 7-0 lead midway of the first quarter. The rest of the opening period was a defensive stalemate, but early in the second, Michael Tucker punched into the endzone to stretch Collinsville’s advantage to 14-0. The Panthers added two touchdowns before the end of the second quarter. The first was a 31-yard strike from Jones to Michael Tucker, and the second came on a 2-yard run that was set up by a Bryan Lopez punt block. Collinsville led 28-0 at halftime. Marlon Trinidad finally put the Tigers on the board in the third quarter. Trinidad blocked a Panther punt that sailed through the back of the endzone for a safety. Collinsville answered with 6-yard scoring run by Tucker, and a 51-yard punt return for a touchdown by Kaleb Jones to extend the Panthers’ lead to 42-2. The Tigers mounted a late scoring drive on the back of Thomas Brewster, who finally found the endzone from 17-yards out. It was too little too late, and Collinsville defeated Valley Head 42-8. Collinsville and Valley Head are the No. 2 seeds from their respective regions in the upcoming AHSAA football playoffs. Valley Head will host Hackleburg in the first round this Friday, while Collinsville welcomes Colbert County.
