Story By Jeremiah Williamson
Cornerstone lost their final home game of the season versus undefeated Jacksonville Christian last Friday night.
Jacksonville got on the board first with a long run around the edge but Cornerstone would answer back with a running touchdown of their own by Jack McGullion to make it a 6-6 game.
The Eagles answered when Colby Harrison caught a touchdown pass from the arm of Lucas Hale. The next scores would be runs in the second quarter with Tristan Johnson and Hale scoring on the quarterback scramble and giving Cornerstone an 18-6 lead.
Jacksonville was the last team to score in the first half with a successful two point conversion that would shorten the Eagles 24-14 lead going into the break.
Jacksonville began the second half with a bang with two touchdowns and a safety unanswered by the Eagles giving Jacksonville a 30-24 lead. Strangely enough a second safety was featured in the third quarter by the Eagles.
Next Jacksonville and Cornerstone traded touchdowns making it a 38-32 ball game in favor of Jacksonville going into the final quarter of play.
A huge interception for Jacksonville late in the fourth quarter set them up for an easy touchdown to make it a 44-34 score with very little time left.
Eagles scored again, but after an unsuccessful onside kick the game would end with Jacksonville on top 44-40 bringing an end to the Eagles undefeated season.
Cornerstone (2-1 overall, 1-1 in the eight-man division) travels to Tuscaloosa Christian in Cottondale on Friday.
