Fort Payne varsity boys edged North Jackson 3-2 last Tuesday at Stevenson.
Despite an early North Jackson lead, Fort Payne tied at game at two in the third inning before Lilly singled on a 0-2 count in the top of the fifth scoring one run to lift the Wildcats past the Chiefs.
Fort Payne’s Ryker Shankles allowed three hits and two runs over two innings, striking out two earning the victory on the mound. Jake Barnes entered in relief allowing one hit and no runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walkine none. Brannon Oliver threw one and one-third innings to close out the game.
The Wildcats racked up six hits with Shankles and Eli Lilly credited with multiple hits.
Wynne took the loss for North Jackson allowing three runs on six hits and striking out 12 over five innings.
Fort Payne 5, Plainview 0
The Wildcats shut-out Plainview 5-0 during Friday’s matchup at Fort Payne High School.
Griffin Winn was credited with the win in the circle, allowing five hits and no runs while striking out seven and walking one over five innings for Fort Payne. Ryker Shankles and Brannon Oliver closed out the game in relief.
In the third inning, Nolan Fowler scored when Dax Varnadore singled on a line drive to center fielder Hall. A few plays later Shankles and Varnadore scored on an Oliver single and an error by first baseman for a 3-0 advantage.
Oliver, Winn, Blake Griggs, Lilly and Varnadore each collected hits for Fort Payne, while Luke Patton made nine plays.
On the mound for the Bear, Levi Brown had no hits and no runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none.
Britton Morgan and Trey Rutledge tallied multiple hits for Plainview, while Morgan went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bears in hits.
North Sand Mountain 10, Sylvania 2
The Sylvania Rams had a tough match against North Sand Mountain last Thursday in Higdon, falling 10-2.
The Bison opening scoring in the second inning gained momentum as they put up five more runs in the bottom of the fourth, while limiting the Rams to two runs.
On the mound, Sylvania’s Brant Kittle allowed three hits and two runs over one and one-third innings.
Braiden Thomas and Jaxon Smith lead Rams with two hits apiece, while Josh Scott and Jonah Gurley each got a hit. Logan Shoemake pitched North Sand Mountain to victory, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one over two and two-thirds innings. Mikey Poss threw one inning in relief.
