Fort Payne Conquered Pell City 42-20
By Jeremiah Williamson
Fort Payne came into Pell City ready and hopeful for a win. Fort Payne struck first as McPherson got them started with a 20-yard field goal. Fort Payne also scored the first touchdown of the ballgame, with Hunter Love going around the end for six. Pell City answered on their next drive as they marched down the field and punched in their own touchdown on the goal line to make it a 10-7 game. Fort Payne drove once again, and the drive ended with Blalock dropping back and hitting Marcus Ledford for the touchdown. Fort Payne’s defense held up, giving the offense the ball back, and Hunter Love scored right before the first half horn sounded. The score was 24-7 Fort Payne going into the half. The second half started just as the first one did with McPherson hitting another field goal with this one from 40 yards out. Both sides played defense as another score was not put on the board until Pell City scored a touchdown with two minutes and some change left. The third quarter ended with some fireworks from the Fort Payne offense as Blalock dropped back once again and hit Cam Thomas for his second throwing touchdown of the game. Fort Payne marched into the fourth quarter with the lead and a whole lot of confidence leading 34-13. The fourth quarter featured a score from both teams but not much else as the game ended in favor of Fort Payne 42-20.
