No track, no problem. That is what the small group of kids from Fyffe said about running track. The Fyffe High School Outdoor Track team finished their 2023 season competing in the State meet at Oliver Woodard Stadium in Cullman last weekend. The small team from Fyffe had four individuals, and their 4×100 relay team qualified to compete at the State meet. The team was led by the lone senior, Kirby Coots, who ran in the 100 and 200-meter dash and anchored the 4×100 relay team. Coots raced across the finish line with times of 14.16 in the 100 and 28.94 in the 200-meter events.
The Red Devils brought home one medal from the competition, with freshman Hadlee Powell finishing second in the 2A girls shot put with a distance of 33’.3”. Powell also competed in the discus finishing in 6th place with a throw of 93’.3”.
- Paige Green, Nataly Woodle, Hadley West, and Kirby Coots had a strong finish in the 4×100 relay with a time of 55.18.
- Eighth-grader Miley Westbrook competed in the 400-meter dash and crossed the finish line with a time of 1:08.46.
- Freshman Dawson McCollum ran in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter events finishing inside the top ten in both. McCollum turned in times of 4:46.98 in the 1600 and 10:20.21 in the 3200 race.
With a group of dedicated underclassmen returning for the Red Devils next year, the future of track at Fyffe is bright.
