Geraldine Beat New Hope
By Nick Hall
Geraldine beat New Hope Indians for their first loss of the season on Friday, September 20. It was all Bulldogs at Geraldine. The Indians were helpless as Geraldine scored early and often on their way to a rout. The Bulldogs jumped on the Indians midway of the first to take a 7-0 lead on Anthony Baldwin’s 3-yard run and Jose Garcia’s PAT. The PAT was the first of seven for Garcia on the night. Austin King scored on a 6-yard touchdown late in the first to extend Geraldine’s lead to 14-0.
King added a second touchdown midway of the third to put the Bulldogs up 21-0. A couple of minutes later, Kyle Thackerson returned an Indians punt 62-yards to stretch Geraldine’s advantage to 28-0. New Hope fumble the ensuing kickoff return and Troy Willoughby recovered for the Bulldogs. Thackerson then took advantage by racing 19 yards for one more Geraldine touchdown before halftime. The Bulldogs took a 35-0 lead to the locker room.
The Bulldogs added two more scores in the second half. Baldwin had a 17-yard touchdown with 4:12 left in the third quarter, and Caleb Hall ended the third with a 51-yard touchdown run. The Indians were able to avoid the shutout with a 9-yard touchdown run by Dylan Selvage and Travis Bennett PAT. It was too little too late, however, and Geraldine handed New Hope a 49-7 loss.
