The Ider Hornets travelled to Valley Head Friday night to take on Tigers. The Hornets came away with a 47-20 win, their ninth straight over the Tigers.
Ider scored first when Jacob Higdon punched into the endzone from 2 yards out. James Krebs’ PAT gave the Hornets a 7-0 lead with 7:51 to play in the first quarter. Just over a minute later, Seth Hawkins extended the Hornets’ lead to 14-0 on a 14-yard scoring run. Higdon struck again from 2 yards out to stretch the lead to 21-0 with 1:14 to play in the first quarter.
The Hornets continued to impose their will in the second quarter with touchdown runs by Justin Wood and Matt Wood. Valley Head was able to get on the scoreboard late in the second quarter when Marlon Trinidad raced 14 yards to cut the Hornets lead with 4:48 left in the first half. The PAT failed and Ider took a 29-point lead into the locker room at half.
Ider continued their dominance in the third quarter with touchdown runs by Jace Palmer and Matt Norman, but the fourth quarter was all Valley Head. Trinidad scored on runs of 38 and 95 yards to close the gap. Trinidad also scored on a two-point conversion attempt, but it just wasn’t enough, and the Tigers fell to the Hornets for the ninth straight year, 47-20. Ider (2-3, 1-2) travels to 2A, Region 8 foe Asbury (1-4, 0-4) this week, while Valley Head (1-4, 0-3) hosts 1A, Region 7 foe Woodville (2-3,1-1).
