Lady Bears Go 6-0
The Plainview Lady Bears defeated Pennington 3-2 on Saturday, April 13, to win the Gadsden Tournament with a walk-off single. The game was tied at two with Plainview batting in the bottom of the fifth when Crimson Wells singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Lily Boswell struck out 11, while Alanna Goble sat down eight. The Lady Bears evened things up at two in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Boswell earned the win for Plainview. She went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out 11 and walking zero. The Lady Bears racked up seven hits in the game. Tobi Trotter and Kenzi Traylor each managed two hits to lead the Lady Bears. Pennington didn’t commit a single error. Shea Putman had the most chances in the field with eight.
Boswell threw a perfect game earlier in the day to move Plainview past Pell City 3-0, and into the finals. Boswell struck out Cassidy Murphy to end the game. Boswell struck out 11, while Pell City’s, Emily Butts, sat down five. Boswell went six innings for the Lady Bears, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out 11 and walking zero. Mia Tidmore, Jayla Gravitt, Trotter, and Crimson Wells each collected one hit to lead Plainview. The Lady Bears were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Tidmore made the most plays with 11.
In Plainview’s second game of the day, Tessa Word was brilliant on the mound, throwing a no-hitter to lead the Lady Bears past Cherokee County 6-1. Plainview got things started in the first inning when Wells hit a three-run homer. Word surrendered one run on zero hits over five innings, striking out six. Tidmore went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Plainview in hits. The Lady Bears tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Tidmore led the way with three. Carson Coley went 0-for-2 at the plate as she led Cherokee County with one run batted in.
Kaitlin McBride opened bracket play on the mound for Plainview, allowing zero runs and besting Gaylesville by a score of 14-0. The Lady Bears secured the win thanks to 12 runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower by Plainview was led by Jacey Crowell, Word, Traylor, Wells, and Krimson Kidd, who each had RBIs in the inning. The Lady Bears got on the board in the first inning when Wells doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. McBride went four innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking zero. Plainview tallied two home runs on the day. Traylor had a grand slam homer in the second inning. Wells had a two-run homer in the second as well. The Lady Bears scattered 14 hits in the game. Wells, Kidd, Elaine Puckett, and Avery Price all had multiple hits for Plainview. Price, Puckett, Kidd, and Wells each managed two hits to lead The Lady Bears. The Lady Bears defeated West End 15-2 and Fort Payne 9-0 in pool play on Friday.
