Lady Bears State Qualified
The Plainview Lady Bears had everything working on last Thursday, winning 15-1 over Colbert Heights. Plainview tallied five runs in the fifth inning. Kenzi Traylor, Crimson Wells, and Tessa Word led the Lady Bears offense in the inning all driving in runs in the frame. Lily Boswell was credited with the victory for Plainview. She went four innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out six and walking one. Word threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Plainview hit two home runs on the day. Wells had a long ball in the fifth inning. Word went for the long ball in the fifth inning. The Lady Bears collected 15 hits on the day. Traylor, Wells, Word, and Jacey Crowell each managed multiple hits for Plainview. Traylor led Plainview with four hits in four at bats.
Plainview snagged a late lead in game two and defeated Lauderdale County 9-4. The game was tied at three with the Lady Bears batting in the top of the sixth when Wells homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs. Wells led Plainview Bears Varsity to victory by driving in five runs. She went 2-for-4 at the plate driving in runs on a single in the fifth and a home run in the sixth. Plainview got things started in the second inning when Kidd singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. In the bottom of the fifth, Lauderdale County tied things up at three with a solo homer. The Lady Bears put up three runs in the seventh inning. Plainview offense in the inning was led by Crowell and Traylor, all knocking in runs in the inning. Boswell earned the win for Plainview. She lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out ten and walking one. The Lady Bears collected 13 hits in the game. Wells, Kidd, Elaine Puckett, Mia Tidmore, and Traylor each collected multiple hits for Plainview Bears Varsity. Traylor, Tidmore, Puckett, Kidd, and Wells all had two hits to lead Plainview.
Plainview suffered their only loss of the north region tournament at the hands of area rival Pisgah. The Lady Bears stayed in it until the end, but the Lady Eagles pulled away late in a 12-2 victory. Pisgah trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jaden Burgess singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs. After getting on the board in the first inning with a solo homer by Macy Anderson, Pisgah pulled away for good with nine runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Annie Hughes drew a walk, scoring one run, Anderson drew a walk, scoring one run, Kennedy Barron doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run, Hannah Duncan homered on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs, and Burgess singled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. Leigha Kirby pitched Pisgah to victory. She allowed four hits and two runs over six innings, striking out three and walking zero. Tessa Word went three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits and striking out one. Plainview socked one home run in the game when Crimson Wells put one out in the third inning. Tidmore, Tobi Trotter, Kidd, and Wells all had one hit to lead the Lady Bears.
Plainview emerged from the losers’ bracket after defeating Lauderdale County again to punch their ticket to Montgomery. Wells was clutch at the plate, driving in four on three hits to lead the Lady Bears past Lauderdale County 13-1. Wells drove in runs on a single in the first and a home run in the fifth. Plainview opened the scoring in the first inning when Wells singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Plainview notched six runs in the fifth inning. The Lady Bears’ big bats were led by Word, Traylor, and Wells, all knocking in runs in the inning. Boswell was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears. She went five innings, allowing one run on one hit, striking out nine and walking one. Plainview socked two home runs on the day. Wells and Word both homered in the fifth inning. The Lady Bears totaled ten hits. Wells, Trotter, and Tidmore each racked up multiple hits for Plainview. Wells went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Bears in hits. Plainview didn’t commit a single error in the field. Tidmore had ten chances in the field, the most on the team. Plainview will take on Prattville Christian Wednesday, May 15th at 10:45 am in the first round of the state tournament in Montgomery.
