Story By Jeremiah Williamson
Cornerstone Christian Academy was scheduled to play a 6-man game last Thursday instead of their regular 8-man football but, despite the differences, still came out with a 63-46 victory over Pineview Christian.
The Eagles would come out of the gate with all cylinders firing and 21 total points in the first quarter alone. Lucas Hale was the first to find the endzone for Cornerstone with a 30-yard scamper for six.
The next touchdown would come through the air, with Colby Harrison finding Jack McGullion for one of the many touchdowns that McGullion would score. It wouldn’t be long before he scored again as he found the edge for a 65-yard touchdown.
The second quarter featured some scoring by the Eagles’ defense when linebacker Konner Fortner made a tackle worth two points in the endzone for a safety. Colby Harrison added two more touchdown passes to his total throwing; one to his favorite target of the night Mcgullion, and the other caught by Sam Johnson for a long pass totaling 72 yards.
The Eagles would soar into the break with a 36-28 lead. Cornerstone utilized the run game with two touchdowns in the third quarter, with McGullion who once again scored with a 3-yard run up the middle, and Tristan Johnson finding six from 36 yards out.
McGullion completed his player of the week bid with a 60-yard kick return to the endzone. McGullion finished with a total of 31 points and 176 yards, giving him the honor of being the
player of the game. It wasn’t all about Jack though, as the last Eagle to score was Owen Meadows with a 25-yard touchdown. Cornerstone finished off the game with a 63-46 victory. Cornerstone will be traveling to Mississippi for a game against the tough Russell Christian Warriors, who at this point in the season are undefeated.
