Plainview dominated Glencoe 83-46 in a stellar performance at the Class 3A, Boys Northeast Regional Semi-final on Monday at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Head Coach Robi Coker said all-season staff challenged players to stay focused, to focus on bettering the team.
“Today, our whole goal was energy and effort – to make sure we came out and played hard,” he said. “We had a great start. I thought our guys did a good job getting the tempo moving.”
Luke Smith led the Bears in double-digit scoring with 20 points. Jonah Williams added four 3-pointers and a total of 18 points. Landon White netted 15 points with seven rebounds, and Dylan Haymon scored 14. Levi Brown scored 7 points with four rebounds. Owen Wilborn, Joseph Hutcheson, and Ben Chandler had 3 points each.
Luke Smith opened first-quarter scoring with a layup as Plainview built a 20-8 first-quarter advantage over Glencoe.
At the half, Plainview held a 16-point advantage. The Bears stayed consistent through each quarter, netting 20, 20, 21, and 22 points.
Despite Glencoe’s third-quarter rally, the Bears’ offense limited Glencoe to 21-18 at the end of the third and a low four points in the final frame.
Plainviews’ Williams went on a hot streak, netting three 3-point shots in the second half en route to an 83-46 victory.
Of the win, Coker said, “overall, the message today was to go 1-0, and that’s what these guys did.”
The Bears take on Piedmont Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10:45 a.m. for the Class 3A Boys Northeast Regional Final at Jacksonville State University.

The Lady Bears overpowered Ohatchee 74-53 following a strong fourth-quarter rally at the Monday Class 3A Girls Northeast Regional Semi-final game at Jacksonville State University.
Head Coach Luke Griggs commanded Plainview girls on their efforts against Ohatchee’s Jorda Crook, whom he referred to as a “pretty good player.”
“We are really fortunate to have a great team,” he said. Coming into the game, Griggs said they planned to get their hands on the ball as much as possible.
Sawyer Kate Hulgan led Plainview with 29 points, including five 3-point shots. Saydi Jackson added 15 points with nine rebounds, Gracie Rowell had nine and four rebounds, and Lauren Jimmerson chipped in seven and four rebounds. Ali Price scored five points with five rebounds, and Kami Sanders added five points and six rebounds. Zana Ferguson and Graidin Hass added two points a piece.
Despite Ohatchee capturing a three points opening quarter lead, Plainview found their groove in the second frame, putting up 23 points and closing out first-half with three back-to-back 3s.
Going into the half behind on point shooting at intermission, the Lady Bears held a 34-27 advantage over Ohatchee.
Plainview continued its offensive efforts in the second half, outscoring Ohatchee 23-7 in the final frame en route to a 74-53 victory.
Of the upcoming game, Griggs said, “we are excited to play – we like playing good competition – we can’t wait.”
The Lady Bears take on Susan Moore today at 9 a.m. for the Class 3A Girls Northeast Regional Final at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
